Bring Epilepsy out of the Shadows

The methods used to demystify epilepsy are vast.  Here is a list of the incredibly comprehensive services and resources they offer:

  • Information relating to epilepsy

  • Books and audiovisual materials which is produced by Epilepsy Queensland.

  • Helpline and support – either over the phone or arranged counselling

  • Hospital visits to epilepsy units. This is an invaluable support for patients and families.

  • Children’s programs that educate children and the wider community about epilepsy.  Activities include school visits, world of trivia competitions, kids even join a little Poss club and receive monthly newsletters. Great support.

  • Family support programs help complicated patients with epilepsy and another medical conditions or uncontrolled epilepsy.

  • Workshops for target groups manage epilepsy appropriately.

  • Epilepsy Awareness campaign is a major fixture on the calendar.

  • Epilepsy Queensland makes a big effort to see regional areas and provide support.

  • Healthcare professionals can also access education provided with monthly workshops.

  • Management plans and emergency treatment training help support the family manage seizures more effectively.

  • To solve lack of community understanding, Epilepsy Queensland offers a wide range of education and advertising to improve community awareness.

  • Other areas covered is research and advocacy for people with epilepsy.

The Epilepsy Queensland website has a large amount of great information to support people and families with epilepsy.  Without dedicated and caring staff most people with epilepsy would still be in the dark.
